Weekend Stuff…
I’d LIKE to say it was an action-packed fun-filled weekend, but truthfully? I spent much of the weekend looking at carpet samples. It’s amazing to me how MANY shades of “beige” carpet comes in these days. It was explained to me that everybody wants neutral carpet these days. I must have looked at a hundred different samples, with various names like, “autumn wheat,” “summer sand,” “roasted grain,” “vanilla mocha,” “desert sunset,” etc. In other words, beige.
After we got done looking at carpet at one place, up in Northglenn, we decided to get a late lunch at Cracker Barrell, since we were in the area. We love Cracker Barrell, but they don’t have one in the south suburbs, and we’re not that often up north. So when we get the opportunity for Cracker Barrell, we GRAB it! My wife and I both ordered chicken fried comfort food. We didn’t do the puzzle with the golf tees, though. Always fun to browse through the gift shop afterward. Like a trip back in time, reminiscent of the “Stuckeys” and similar places along the route of the ol’ family vacation in the station wagon!
Saturday night, we watched another “garage sale movie,” that is, a movie we picked up at a garage sale for fifty cents. Last week it was “U-571,” this weekend it was “”The Three Amigos”–Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short. Enjoyable, though kind of silly. Twenty years later, Steve Martin still looks exactly the same as he did in this movie. I saw Chevy Chase on Martha Stewart’s show a couple days ago, he’s starting to look a lot older. Martin Short–whatever happened to HIM? He was a pretty funny guy, but for whatever reason he wasn’t able to sustain his career, at least not at the A-list level, or even the B-list. Anyway, I remember when “The Three Amigos” came out, back in ‘86. It seemed to me like it was a pretty big movie at the time, but watching it made me wonder WHY?
Sunday my wife and I went over to visit my sister and her husband, who live near Wash Park. We walked over to Bonnie Brae Ice Cream–YUMMY! (It’s always easier to rationalize those fat grams when you’ve walked 30 minutes to GET them!) I am astonished at how some people can eat ice cream as slowly as they do. One guy had a bowl of some brownie chocolate nut something, he was eating it as we sat down–he was STILL eating it twenty minutes later, LONG after I’d finished MY ice cream! HOW DID HE DO THAT!? Of course, now that I think about it, maybe he had actually ordered a SECOND bowl while I wasn’t looking! Sure couldn’t blame him for THAT!!
So that was MY weekend–how was YOURS?
